Direct help vs crowdfunding
Both can help someone with a personal need. The biggest difference is who holds the money in between.

| Direct help (PayPlea) | Crowdfunding | |
|---|---|---|
| Who holds the money | Nobody in between — the recipient’s provider account | The platform, until payout |
| Fees | Provider fees, if any | Platform and payment fees vary |
| Speed | As fast as the provider | Depends on payout rules |
| Buyer protection | Usually none for personal transfers | Depends on the platform |
| Progress | Pending and confirmed shown separately | Usually a single total |
When crowdfunding may suit better
Large, long-running campaigns or ones that need an organiser to manage funds for someone else are usually better on a dedicated crowdfunding platform.
When direct help may suit better
Smaller, specific needs where helpers want to support one person directly — like a bill — fit the direct model. See for helpers.
Safety box
Only send money you are comfortable giving. Check the recipient name shown by the provider, never pay with gift cards or crypto at someone’s request, and remember that many personal transfers cannot be reversed. PayPlea cannot recover money sent with an external provider.
