How to ask for financial help online

Asking for help is hard. A clear, honest request protects you and helps people decide. This guide covers what to write, what to keep private and what to expect.

Not an emergency service

If you are in immediate danger or without essential safety, contact the appropriate local emergency or public support service first.

Be specific

Say what the money is for, how much you need and by when. “Help with this month’s electricity bill of €250” is clearer than “I need money”.

Be truthful

Exaggeration erodes trust and can lead to rejection or suspension. Fabricated stories or documents are prohibited.

Protect your privacy

  • Never publish account numbers, ID numbers or your address.
  • Do not include other people’s data.
  • On PayPlea, supporting documents are private and used only for review.

Set expectations

There is no guarantee anyone will help. Look at public support options where you live alongside any request. See ask for help for the PayPlea requirements.

Avoid pressure

Countdown language and repeated private messages push helpers away and can breach the community guidelines.
